River Oaks Hospital

Partial Hospitalization

River Oaks Hospital has developed an array of Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) designed to address the mental health concerns of specific populations that have demonstrated a need for specialized treatment. Our commitment is to help patients remain connected to their community while providing education and support they need to decrease the likelihood of relapse and the need for hospitalization. The Partial Hospitalization Programs at River Oaks Hospital offer structured treatment programs that stabilize and treat patients for an extended period of time, five to seven days per week.

PHP for the Treatment of Persistent Mental Illness:

Patients suffering from chronic psychiatric problems are often at risk for repeated inpatient hospitalizations. The PHP offers interventions that focus on symptom management, relapse prevention, coping and problem solving ability and medication compliance. Clinicians work at providing patients with concrete and practical tools that will enhance their levels of independence and self-esteem and decrease the likelihood of an inpatient admission.

PHP for the Treatment of Addictive Disorders and Dual Diagnosis:

Addictions are recognized as chronic and progressive processes that must be met with ongoing support and education. Clinicians recognize the importance of providing chemically dependent patients with an intense level of care in order to secure sobriety while working towards rehabilitation and connection to a support system in the community. The PHP is committed to a 12-Step approach to recovery and focuses on treating the whole patient including any co-existing mental health problem such as depression, anxiety or bi-polar illness.

PHP for the Older Adult:

River Oaks Hospital has been a pioneer in the delivery of specialized psychiatric care for Older Adults. Clinicians specializing in geriatric mental health have developed interventions tailored to address the biopsychosocial aspects of the aging process. This PHP serves to reduce the isolation experienced by many older people and works effectively towards enhancing the patient’s ability to cope with grief and loss issues, depression or anxiety. The Program promotes independence of patients and works at increasing the patients’ connection to their support systems, communities and their own sense of worth and dignity.

Treatment plans are developed after an initial evaluation is conducted. Included in this plan is the attainment of specific goals, discharge planning, and assistance with daily living skills. The clinical team consists of physicians, nurses, social workers, and activities therapists skilled in music, art movement, and occupational therapies.
