Recovery to Renewal – Military Program
Recovery to Renewal is a substance abuse program at River Oaks Hospital that is committed to supporting the men and women of our Nation’s Military who are seeking recovery from substance abuse and mental health issues. It utilizes an effective detoxification service and is designed to address the unique needs of the Military. Service members can attend this program for up to 28 days.
River Oaks Hospital has been providing substance abuse counseling for over 40 years and recognizes the prevalence of those suffering from Dual Diagnosis Disorders. Recovery to Renewal has developed specialized treatment modalities for these individuals. The combined impact of substance abuse and mental health issues is addressed with integrated therapy, comprehensive psychiatric care, and focused continuing care planning.
Treatment Care Plans are specifically developed for each patient and implemented through group and individual therapy. These include addictions awareness, co-occurring disorder treatment, life-skills treatment and Military specific issues such as separation and adjustment, deployment readiness, loss and grief counseling, combat stress and reintegration adjustment. Treatment modalities are specifically designed for this population. Included in our treatment programming are trauma education, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational enhancement therapy, family counseling, activity therapy and 12 step meetings.
River Oaks has taken steps to ensure that our Service Men and Women are kept in a routine environment that helps to keep them connected to life on their base. We have provided a work out area consisting of cardio equipment, weights and resistance machines. Time in the gym is a scheduled part of therapy and allows them to maintain their physical condition.
Each Officer who arrives at River Oaks to deliver or retrieve their Service Member is given a tour of our facility so they become aware of the environment and care that they are entrusting their soldiers to.
Because River Oaks offers a variety of specialty programs, on occasion some of the Military Members we treat are referred to The New Orleans Institute which allows them to break the trauma bond that has controlled the client’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We also treat family members of our Service Members in The Eating Disorder Treatment Center. In this program, staff members consistently guide and support patients in developing a healthy relationship with food, body, self and others, based on empowerment, self-responsibility and personal safety.
Kathy Lammert, LPC, LMFT is the Military Program Coordinator and Lead Therapist for the program. Ms. Lammert not only works with the Military members on an individual and group level but she is the key connection to the Commanding Officers on the base who reach out to us for their recovery needs.
Being Tricare approved in all programs allows us to truly be an asset to our Military bases, officers, soldiers and family members.
Recovery to Renewal is utilized by most of the bases in Louisiana as well as the Gulf Coast but our services are open to any service member across the country in need of treatment for any disorder we specialize in.
