The New Orleans Institute

Trauma-Based Mental Disorders (The New Orleans Institute)

Specialized treatment is available in a non-threatening and therapeutic environment for individuals suffering from trauma-based mental disorders, compulsive behavior disorders, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorders. Specialized inpatient treatment programs are also available for active duty members of the military and their families.

Many individuals require specialized intensive inpatient treatment when outpatient and inpatient stabilization programs have been unsuccessful in containing self-destructive symptoms. The New Orleans Institute offers seven-day-a-week specialized treatment within a supportive environment. Our multidisciplinary treatment team has more than 25 years of experience in the stabilization of several trauma-related symptoms, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Compulsive behaviors
  • Dissociation
  • Somatic distress
  • Self-injury

Individual and group interventions are used for stabilization as well as to identify and provide resolution to the cycles of self-destructive behavior. The programs also facilitate the resolution of long-term developmental issues, personality disorders, and address life-interfering behaviors, emphasizing relapse prevention.

Patients receive a full day of treatment services within the structured and trusting therapeutic community. Our goal is to provide a respectful, protected, and empowering environment in which patients can pursue the work of healing.

Traumatic Events and Mental Health

Traumatic events can devastate your mental health. Nearly 40% of adults say that they have experienced trauma at least once in their lives.

An inpatient trauma program at a trauma inpatient treatment center can get to the root of the effects from a traumatic experience, and trauma therapists understand the importance of a trauma-focused treatment program.

Types of Trauma-Based Mental Health Disorders

  • Compulsive behavior disorders
    • We can help with OCD. Obsessive thoughts and repetitive behavior can be signs of a compulsive behavior disorder such as obsessive compulsive disorders or even sex addiction.
  • Eating disorders
    • We can help with every type of eating disorder. Signs of an eating disorder include fear of gaining weight, excessive weight loss or an obsession with losing weight. If you or a loved one has developed an eating disorder, please begin the admissions process.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorders
    • We can help treat PTSD. Diagnosing PTSD at a PTSD treatment center is key, as treatments for PTSD can be very effective when utilized properly.
