Children’s Program

River Oaks is honored to be entrusted with the care of your child and is dedicated to providing clinical excellence as we partner with you to attend to your child’s mental health needs. Our children’s unit serves clients ages 5 to 11 and their families.

We are a 15 bed acute care unit, which means that we provide the highest level of therapeutic support for clients that cannot safely be maintained at a lower level of care. Behavior management on the unit focuses on positive reinforcement, behavior shaping, and reward. Punitive measures are avoided.

Our average length of stay is 7 to 10 days during which your child will receive treatment from a multidisciplinary team consisting of a child and adolescent psychiatrist, social workers and counselors, activity therapist, educators, and mental health technicians. The day is highly structured with four hours of group therapy utilizing evidence-based approaches seven days per week, structured unit activities seven days per week, and 2 hours of educational instruction 5 days per week. Family contact and involvement from the physician, clinical services, and nursing services is an ongoing process across your child’s stay. We also actively focus on discharge planning and referral for appropriate services at the next level of care.
